Welcome to Malcolm C. Hursey Elementary!!

Our school is helping students develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the profile of the South Carolina graduate by providing quality Montessori and traditional education with the cooperative involvement of family, faculty and the community. Currently, MC Hursey offers traditional 1st-4th grade classes, as well as 14 Montessori classrooms ranging from 3K to 8th grade. As we look to the future, we are excited about this opportunity to offer the Montessori curriculum to our current and future families. We achieved Absolute and Growth ratings of “Average” on the 2013-14 school report card.  Our school provides rigorous academics balanced with care of the environment, community service and encouragement of a healthy lifestyle.

The Montessori philosophy offers a unique approach to learning that provides an environment and materials purposefully designed to stimulate the child's interest and natural desire to learn. We are striving for excellence inside and outside of the classroom by embracing the use of technology, engaging our families in the learning process; and building a strong community of learners. Along with these efforts, our PTA, SIC, and Title 1 committees continue their work to build connections among our school, families, and community. It is with the support of our families and community members that we are able to continue to strive for excellence and to provide the best possible education for each child, ensuring the establishment of life-long learners for our future.
